The world is grappling with an invisible, deadly enemy, trying to understand how to live with the threat posed by a virus. People try to put pen to paper and tears to pearls what it feels like to continue living as countries under lockdown and regular life seems to have ground to a halt. The corona virus pandemic has stretched around the world, it’s sparked a crop of diary entries and lived experiences that describe how life has challenged and changed. We will remember this time later, filled with uncertainty pain, fear, absence of dear ones as well as small moments of hope and humanity. Historically, pandemic have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their world anew. This one is not different. It is a portal, a gateway between one world and the next.
Giving shape to time is especially important now, when the future is so shapeless. We don’t know whether the virus will continue to rage for weeks or months. We don’t know when we will feel safe again. We may stay this way if we don’t create at least the steps in our lives, our long days spent with ourselves and family members,
We can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudices, hatred, avarice, data banks, dead ideas dead rivers and smoky skies behind us. Class room are closed but school of learning continues. Experience is a great teacher, nearness of family members is another way to learn and unlearn. We will walk and break through these challenges even if it is the undivided moments when tears rolled down our cheeks. Together we can and we will. Therefore stay home stay safe.
